You Already Know

I've been listening to the great Dale Carnegie this month, first his classic volume, "How to Win Friends and Influence People", and upon finding him to be both pure and awesome, anything else I could find. Now I am working through "How to Stop Worrying and Start Living". Though not a particularly worrisome topic for me, I have nevertheless found the book insightful.

Near the start of the book, Dale says he's not here to teach us anything new; no, it's all the same message as you've heard before, as has been taught by good religion and moral code for thousands of years. He's here, as he puts it, "to kick you in the shins and get you to do something about it". We already know what we need to do to raise our game. Let's get on with it and do it.

In a recent talk, renowned speaker Dan Clark pantomimes the conventional wisdom to "think outside the box". Well, what if the answer is still inside the box! Dan continues, "C'mon Dan, give me some pixie dust--tell me, what's the secret?" and he concludes, "There is no secret. The right answers are the right answers because they are still the right answers!"

So, here's to the right answers, to action and decision over consumption and perfectionism.
