New Paradigms

At the start of this month I had an epiphany, and it is this: if we want to make incremental changes, focus on behavior and efficiency; if we want a sea change, focus on paradigm. Thus, the only way to get different results than we have previously gotten is to learn new paradigms.

How does one get new paradigms? They seem hard to come by. As far as I can tell, there are only two ways: first, by our own experience, and second, by learning from somebody else. But even these are not sufficient. Often we fail to learn from our own experience, and often we fail to really listen to, understand, or take seriously the experience of others. If we pay attention, both methods are profitable, but I suspect the second is much less costly.
