Staying Out of the Rut

Tonight we attended a lovely conference and heard a story worth remembering. Jerry Fenn relates that while serving a mission in Chicago he picked up fat-tire bicycling in the snow to keep in shape  during the winter months. On a cold sunny day with fresh show fallen he set out on a snow covered trail. He found the vehicle ruts to be easier, but learned late in the day that as the sun melts the snow during the day, moisture pools in the rut and refreezes to form dangerously slick ice. After biffing it twice and breaking some ribs, he returned home having to determined to take the more difficult bit safer path of forging a new path through the fresh fallen snow, and staying out of the rut.
